Produced by Jagdish P. Gupta’s Jagson Entertainments, ‘Muavza – Zameen Ka Paisa’ is satirical comedy on the lives of the Gujjar community. The film stars Annu Kapoor, Akhilendra Mishra and Pankaj Berry in pivotal roles. The film is a rib tickling, super sarcastic, unique story of razor sharp wit focusing on the lives of Nuevo Rich of New Delhi & NCR. Their lifestyles, before & after, their identity crises & their raw approach to everything, their chowdharayat to prove their one-upmanship. Here are the reasons why you should catch the film in thetres this week: 1. Veteran actors playing strong characters Annu Kapoor plays a character called ‘Bechu Bhai’, a shrewd opportunist who is in a bid to perpetuate the newly earned reputation of landlords who’ve been monetarily loaded with governmental compensation for their lands and are easily fooled. Akhildendra Mishra plays Jaikishan Choudhary. Eldest of the 5 brothers. A man who is old school and believes in keeping his family name alive. He would do anything to keep the respect of his family going and has the typical Choudhary attitude of someone respectable. Pankaj Berry plays Jasram Choudhary. A flashy dresser who believes he will never get old who has a passion for the language of English, English alcohol & English women. He also is enthusiastic about learning about every little thing in this world. They get conned by the character of Bechu Bhai. 2. Theme of the film The central theme of the film revolves around how excessive wealth can lead to wastage of resources. ‘Muavza – Zameen Ka Paisa’ is a reminder that newly gained fortune if not put to good use can quickly slip away, leading to disasters. The film serves as a lesson to the Gujjar community on whom the movie is based and forces them to rethink about their spends. It makes them realize how their ‘so called’ lavish live is actually corroding them from within. 3. Path breaking performances Stand out performances by Annu Kapoor and Akhilendra Mishra create the best scenes in the movie especially where they interact with each other. Mishra is at his best in the scenes that depict authority and command. After Vicky Donor and Jolly L.L.B 2, Annu Kapoor plays yet another unique character and completely gets into it by catching minute details. Pankaj Berry too has to be credited for his multi-layered portrayal. The rest of the actors do well to support them but ultimately the film revolves around the trio. 4. Slice of life film ‘Muavza – Zameen Ka Paisa’ is a slice of life film about people blinded by the lust for money and power. The film is packed with wit and humor. The Haryanvi accent and setting will truly transport you into the Gujjar world even if you’re watching the film out South or far east. 5. The departments that make it work Direction by Girish Juneja brings out the realism of the story and his characters. While Rahul Thagele’s story loosely based on the life of Samajwadi party’s leader’s son Atul Gangwar, who opened fire on three people in public eye being drunk, makes the screenplay interesting. Muavza succeeds in making a strong point about an important issue that needs our attention. And it does so in an entertaining manner and without being too preachy. Upmanyu Bhanot’s music is entertaining as well and appropriate which is quite situational at the same time.
