The Govt recently announced the 2019-2020 Budget which brought about amendments to certain provisions pertaining to the Indian film industry. Filmmaker Paakhi A Tyrewala who made her feature film debut with India’s first Sikkimese film ‘Pahuna- The Little Visitors’ welcomed the move by the Govt and believes it will help independent filmmakers a lot.
Paakhi who has received acclaim and accolades for her film ‘Pahuna- The Little Visitors’ says, “The introduction of the anti cam-cording provision to the Cinematography Act and the single window clearance mechanism is a noble intention. And for the highest film producing nation in the world, it wouldn’t be a day too soon.
With my film Pahuna, the Sikkim government made exactly that possible leaving me to concentrate on film making. I would love the same ease to be experienced by fellow film makers . As film makers we are happy to suffer for our films, but for a change, it would be nice not to.
The 2019-2020 Budget focused on key issues which have been welcomed by the filmmakers and the film fraternity. The single window clearance mechanism for Indian filmmakers which was earlier only available to foreign films enables an ease of access to filmmakers to seek shooting permissions and hence helping save time in the process. And the introduction of the anti cam-cording provision to the Cinematography Act aims to curb film piracy and enforce strict action against offenders who illegally shoot any video content through any recording device such as smartphone or voice recorder.
